Convinced that the many people who say that Lake Mungo is “not scary, just sad” literally are not paying attention. Being attacked by the literal embodiment of your tragic fate is scary af. The inevitability of something horrible happening to you and knowing it’s going to happen is so deeply unsettling. And on top of all that, any kind of paranormal goings-on that happen around a body of water just make it that much more disturbing. Not to mention the grainy and lagging quality of the phone footage. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. But to me, Lake Mungo is so so so effective as a horror movie.
